The Luck of The Irish
Hey,
Key Weekly Performance Stats:
- S&P 500: -2.28%
- Nasdaq 100: -2.47%
- Russel 2000: -1.49%
- Bitcoin: -3.20%
Last week, both the economy and the market faced heightened uncertainty due to escalating trade tensions. President Trump's announcement of increased tariffs on imports from key trading partners, including Canada, Mexico, China, and the European Union. As you could imagine, this led to immediate and continued disruptions. While domestic steel and aluminum manufacturers benefited from reduced foreign competition, sectors reliant on global supply chains, such as automotive and technology industries, experienced increased costs and operational challenges.
The stock market reacted negatively to these developments, with major indices suffering significant declines. This downturn marked the first correction since 2023, as the S&P 500 fell over 10% from its recent record high. Investors grappled with concerns over potential recession risks, exacerbated by the unpredictable nature of trade policies. It's safe to say this uncertainty will remain in the system for a couple weeks at a minimum.
Looking ahead, several key economic events warrant attention. On March 17th, the U.S. Census Bureau will release retail sales data for February, providing insights into consumer spending trends. Additionally, the Federal Reserve's two-day meeting will commence, with markets keenly awaiting updates on monetary policy, economic projections, and potential rate adjustments. Furthermore, Nvidia's GTC Conference will feature discussions on advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and the anticipated unveiling of the GB300 AI chip, which will likely influence the entire technology sector. As always, stick to your trading plan and respect your risk. Godspeed.
Best,
Thicc Kohrs
